What Is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas.  Radon is colorless, odorless, and tasteless and silently infiltrates your home. This gas comes from the decay chain of Uranium.

How Does Radon Affect Me?

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer worldwide, only surpassed by smoking.  Radon gas is 7 times more likely to cause lung cancer than secondhand smoke vapors. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year.

Why Choose Rn86 Solutions?

  • We install the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST) Standards.  These standards specifies practices, minimum requirements, and general guidance for reducing soil gas entry into existing homes in order to mitigate occupant exposures to certain hazardous soil gases, including radon gas, chemical vapors, and other hazardous gases.
  • Our team is certified through the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP).  Our Measurement Certification Number is 111871-RMP and our Mitigation Certification Number is 115029-RMS.
  • Per the current ANSI/AARST 2023 Standards, we use 3″ or 4” Schedule 40 PVC Pipe and fittings for our mitigation systems.  We have noticed a number of systems using PVC Sewer and Drainpipe and fittings; while it is cheaper to install using the PVC Sewer and Drainpipes and fittings, it is a much thinner pipe wall thickness and subject to damage.
  • Per the current ANSI/AARST 2023 Standards, we also install an audible alarm that notifies the occupant that the system is not working as expected.   A U-Tube monitor is still installed for visual verification that the system is functioning.
  • A retest of the home is included in the installation price.  This re-test will be conducted with AARST approved testing equipment.  The mitigation system will need to be running at least 48 hours before a re-test can be conducted.

Testing and Mitigation Process

Schedule A Test

Contact us today to schedule a time for us to set up a Radon test.  The only way to know your home’s Radon Level it to test.

Testing Process

The test takes a minimum of 48 hours and requires the house be in a “closed house condition”.  This is where all windows stay shut and doors remain shut except for normal entry and exit.

Results

Once testing is completed the results will be delivered the via email.  If the results are 4.0 pCi/L, then mitigation is recommended by the State of Tennessee and the EPA.

Mitigation Quote

If your testing results are high, we will give you an estimate of what we expect the Radon mitigation system to cost.  We will need to verify this system as part of the next step.  Any change to the system will be discussed prior to the final system installation.

Communication Testing

Communication testing is how we verify the expected design will work. This process helps us pick the correct location for the Radon mitigation pipe and helps to size the Radon fan correctly.

Installation of Mitigation System

This is where we take all the data from our communications testing and put the actual system in to reduce  the Radon levels.
